Neon Church Cross
Hanford, California
While shooting a documentary on the United Farm Workers for UCSD I stayed overnight in Hanford, the county seat of Kings County, California, located in the San Joaquin Valley region of the Central Valley. Outside my somewhat spooky bed and breakfast window shone the above blood red neon church cross. It seemed like the forward battalion of a retro future crusade. I was so enchanted with the town I returned the next year to shoot a short film on a walnut farm just outside the city.
